Are blue topaz, peridot, alexandrite, amethyst durable enough for daily wear?

I am looking at getting a gemstone ring to take the place of my wedding ring (we sold it for several thousand bucks). I really like the cushion cut and the checkerboard cut. Are there any gemstones that I could wear everyday that won't get scratched up or cloudy? I want to spend less than $200. We've been married for 14 years and we have other more important things to spend our money on nowadays.

Quartz (Amethyst, Citrine) are a 7 which I would say is the lowest to go for every day wear. Even then, they will eventually scratch, depending how you treat them. Topaz is an 8 which is better. Sapphire and ruby are 9, so even harder.
Peridot, I consider too soft for every day wear.

I found a very nice ring at Zales.com its a 3 stone emerald cut 1.5ct white gold... Interesting....geography must have something to do with the price of rings. I live outside of NYC and my ring is a 1 carat princess cut solitaire with 48 small diamonds on the sides of the band and setting (hard to explain...)...altogether, the ring is 1.5 carats, almost flawless quality, set in platinum. The only reason I know how much my fiance paid is because we got it insured: he bought it for $6,000, but originally it was almost $7,000.

We just got our wedding bands, and mine is a .5 carat of diamonds in white gold (platinum was too expensive to match my engagement ring) which cost us $500 on sale, so I'm very happy with that!

Recently, my boyfriend of 2 years told me that he was looking at engagement rings for me. I wasn't phased by this because we had been talking about getting married for a while. what are the pros and cons of buying a vintage engagement ring?

i love vintage rings, and have been looking on ebay at vintage engagement rings, and have fallen in love with the ones circa 1930's.
My boyfriend is all for buying off ebay, but i'm not sure what the disadvantages are for buying a vintage diamond ring, anyone know?

Things to think about:
-The ring has a story (or possibly more) behind it, which could mean either good stories or bad stories will be attached to the ring and therefore to you, when you think about it.
-A good thing about getting a vintage ring would be that no one else is likely to have the exact same design. Nowadays, commercial jewelers offer the same ring design and style and many more women are bound to have it. Yours will truly be unique.
-Make sure you do your homework. The stone could be said to be a diamond, or any other gem, but research and find about rings that were made in the time period listed. Were they really made with that kind of gem or metal? Or could this be a clever fake? Also ask for documentation.
-As far as price goes, try and find one from a commercial jeweler that looks as similar as possible to the one you love. Compare prices. Which one do you find yourself valuing more despite the price difference?
-Also research if there are any websites with testimonials about modern-day brides that chose vintage rings for their engagement rings, and see what they had to say about them. Do they still love them? Your ring is going to be with you for a very long time, so you need to make sure you choose one you'll still be loving later on.

Bottom line: as long as you love it, then get it. Don't go with a safer alternative or change your mind and then end up regretting it later.

Is there an online engagement ring builder for NON diamond engagement rings?

I want a Pearl Engagement Ring, but it seems like EVERY online interactive ring builder only allows you to put in Diamonds and has no other options for center stones. Any websites you've found that allow for a Pearl?

Also having sold jewelry for years, I would also recommend using a different gem. Pearls are typically set with a special type of glue instead of being set by metal like diamonds are, and are one of the easiest gems to damage. You would almost certainly expect to have to replace the pearl at LEAST a few times as a result of loss or damage.
