What is your opinion on cheap engagement rings?
I recently got engaged so I have been obsessing over other people's engagement rings and stories. Does the cost matter to you? What would you do if he gave you a ring from Wal-Mart or Costco? What if it was cubic zirconia?
Personally, I would be very upset. It may sound materialistic, but I think its very romantic that my fiance worked so hard to get me a beautiful ring. He makes less than 25,000 dollars a year and has rent and other financial responsibilities, so I kind of roll my eyes when I hear other people say they have no problem with a cheap ring due to their tight budget. Its a symbol of commitment and eternity, I don't see the problem with making sacrifices and saving up, the sacrifice is what makes it so romantic!
Your opinions?
For me, a cheap engagement ring wouldn't matter. I'm a romantic fool, and I believe in true love, and I believe that true love doesn't depend on cost. Its great that your fiance saved up for a great ring for you, and I'm sure that both of you are so happy about it. Congratulations to you!
At the same time, when my father got married, the only engagement ring he could afford was cubic zirconium. 20 years later, my parents are still married, and they still love each other very much.
So my opinion then is that it really doesn't matter what the engagement ring looks like. As you said, it's a symbol. You know what it stands for, and your fiance does too. In the end, that's really all that matters

For a special and unique twist, consider an emerald engagement ring. Emeralds originate from the beryl mineral, and they are most often mined in South America. They are not only known for their exquisite beauty, but for various spiritual characteristics. Some believe that wearing an emerald will increase a person's clairvoyant powers, while others believe that emeralds have healing powers. A beautiful emerald engagement ring offers up a unique symbol of love and a testament to the engaged couple's commitment.
Emerald values are typically based on the color and clarity of the stone. Unlike some stones, the color of an emerald cannot be precisely defined. Emeralds may be a blue-green or just green color, but the most valuable color for an emerald is typically a blue-green. Stones with some brown or yellow coloring or hues will not be considered as valuable.
When searching for that perfect emerald, you want the color to be uniform throughout the stone. However, since there isn't one true color that an emerald must be, you can also look for a ring that works best for you and appeals to you personally.
While some inclusions may be expected and often do not detract from the brilliance of an emerald, others may lower the value significantly. One of the most serious types of inclusions is a feather. Feathers are fractures that may be found deep within the stone and could cause the stone to break more easily. Very minor inclusions may not be visible in deeper-colored stones.
The transparency of an emerald can also be factored into determining the value of a particular stone. The stone be clear with a uniform color rather than cloudy. Keep in that a darker emerald will not be as transparent simply because of its color.

How much is my Diamond worth???GIA certified!?
I have a 5.05Carat GIA certified loose diamond, I took it out the setting it was in.
I will be going to the jewelers to have it re-appraised tomorrow but I just want other opinions.
Clarity: I-3
Color: E (Excellent Sparkling Colorless)
My father bought is 3 years ago for $248,300
the setting is only worth $1.200
Hmmm. Looks like your daddy got RIPPED off. A 5.05 Carat is not worth so much. I would say, $80,000 since you took out the setting. No no, rite there. The color is pretty good and so is the clarity, I think you would make a bundle of it.

Tiffany & Co introduced the Tiffany style diamond engagement ring, or solitaire diamond engagement ring in the late 19th century. Today, this is still one of the most popular styles chosen by newly engaged couples. The solitaire ring has always maintained the top position among engagement ring selections.
The Tiffany diamond engagement ring has a specific mount, called a claw, which is a set of prongs that attached the diamond to a plain band. This ring, the Tiffany, is named after the company that created it. This setting was designed to emphasize the beauty and brilliance of the stone. A solitaire mounting of a diamond is inexpensive to create and is very easy to reuse. A jeweler can simply reset the diamond in a different setting, and reuse the solitaire band for another diamond. This allows for the bride to choose a different mounting for her wedding band but enjoy the beauty of the Tiffany solitaire ring during the months of her engagement. Most jewelers are more than willing to accept a return of the solitaire setting if the goal is to re-set the original diamond in another style band of the bride's choosing.
The DeBeers diamond company, founded in Africa in 1888 is still responsible for 40% of the production of diamonds worldwide. Their famous slogan,"A Diamond is Forever", created in 1947 is still popular today. This phrase is used worldwide and has become a catch phrase for all diamond sales. It is believed that this creative sales pitch, which is almost sixty years old, has done more to established the diamond engagement ring as the truest symbol of love, commitment and "happily every after" than any other slogan.

I have a ring with amethyst and a ring with emerald that I want to sell online.?
What are some tips for getting the maximum coverage? Before I post these ads Is there anyone who can appraise jewelry for free or maybe for a low fee?
Just a little input....in the jewelry trade, there is a difference between an Appraisal and an Opinion.
A appraisal is a document with breakdown of your item(s) with detailing of stones and usually a retail replacement value. Most appraisers start their appraisals at around $65-$75 per document.
An opinion is a jeweler looking over your piece and giving you an estimated value based on their ideas of current market.
Best coverage is take plenty of pictures and get the most information about your pieces. ie: Karatage of Gold/Metal, Carat weight of stone(s), Quality of Stones, Gram Weight of the piece.
Also, be descript. Mention every detail and be verbose.
Hope that helps...

There are many presents one can buy for Christmas but there is probably no present greater than a diamond necklace.
Diamond necklaces are found at just about every jewellery shop in the UK. This is largely due to the fact that there are far more people in the UK who have the means to purchase a diamond necklace, but also because more people have come to the realisation that diamond necklaces are so beautiful that the intended recipient would be delighted with their gift. Diamond necklaces are therefore sold in many different shops up and down the country and are likely to be a favourite for many years to come.
Christmas Presents
The amount of time and effort people put into shopping for Christmas is scary. The shops are stocked up with Christmas goodies as early as September and some people really do start early. Most however, leave it very late and the run-up to Christmas is a mad time for buying presents. Exactly what present to buy someone can take a while but retailers do their best to entice consumers into quick purchases, perhaps using special offers, incentives and other hooks. In fact, consumers have so much choice it almost becomes impossible.
Diamond Necklaces for Christmas
Choosing a present for Christmas can be a very hard feat especially if it is for someone you care about. That said, if you care about them enough you will be more than happy to treat them to something special. One item that will always be considered special is diamond necklaces. Diamond necklaces are very beautiful indeed, with exquisite looks and stylish features. Anyone receiving a diamond necklace for Christmas will certainly be delighted.
Diamond Necklace Conclusion
The choice of what to buy someone for Christmas is a very tough decision as there are so many different options available. However, If a person really wants to treat a family member or a special friend then diamond necklaces are one option that would always be greatly received. There are other options available too, but this is one that will certainly set their Christmas alight.
Christmas is a magic time for everyone young and old and sometimes we need a little motivation and ideas on what to buy loved ones. This article should help with that process and hopefully someone lucky will receive a diamond this Christmas.

Designer diamond engagement rings are highly sought after by people who are ready to take the next step in their relationship. Many consumers spend a lot of time trying to find that balance between quality and affordability. If you go the traditional route of purchasing designer diamond rings from a jewelry store you can expect to pay top dollar, most of the time you will have to settle with a less desirable ring in order to stay with in your budget.
Designer diamond engagement rings don't have to be so expensive and their not, if you know where to get them. What if I told you that you can and will save a ton of money if you purchased your ring online? This is absolutely true as I saved 30% on a particular engagement ring for my wife by purchasing it online. I was also given a thirty-day money back guarantee just in case I wasn't satisfied with the ring. You can't beat that.
Designer diamond engagement rings are very affordable when you purchase them online. You will be able to afford rings that would otherwise be out of your price range if you had purchased them from a jewelry store off line. Not only will you find affordable rings online but you will also find great quality. When you are looking to make that big purchase and take that next step in your relationship be sure to buy your ring online. That big purchase doesn't have to mean big money.

Looking for engagement ring. Is this jeweler overpriced?
I am currently looking for an engagement ring, and have a budget of around $10,000. I live in NYC, and yesterday I was referred by a friend to visit a jeweler he knows, who sells retail, not wholesale. I went to visit the jeweler and asked him how much $10,000 would get me, to which he replied" You might be able to get a carat, maybe smaller, with imperfections and a slight yellow color". Now, I am not an expert on diamonds, but I think this jeweler is unbelievably overpriced. I was expecting to be able to get a larger stone than that.
The guy is out of line...for the amount you are spending you should be able to get something much larger and far higher quality than he suggested. And for the money you should be able to get a gorgeous mounting that will make the diamond look fabulous. You need to really look around at as many stores as possible to get an idea of what's available and at what prices. You might also want to do an internet search about diamonds, what to look for as far as color, carat, clarity and what else helps decide a diamond's price.
Brand names can also affect the price of a ring. A perfect one carat almost flawless classic Tiffany engagement ring (Where you are paying as much for the brand name as the diamond) is about $7,500. A Bulgaria single carat is about $8,000 with a spectacular setting and for that you are certainly paying more for the name than for the actual ring. My son got his girlfriend a single carat at a local jeweler for about $5000. You'll need to look around at a bunch of stores that sell at different price points. Fortunately, last time I was in NYC, there were lots of stores to choose from.

A pave setting is one where the ring's band is literally paved with diamonds. Small stones encrusted along the ring's surface give the illusion of a solid diamond surface rather than a metal band. Unlike channel or bezel settings, a pave setting uses only tiny beads or minute prongs to hold each stone, minimizing the appearance of the metal while maximizing the illusion of free-standing diamonds. Most pave settings are constructed from white gold or platinum in order to further minimize the metal, though yellow gold can add a measure of traditional elegance. As an engagement ring, a pave setting incorporates a larger central stone above the encrusted diamonds, typically in a high tiffany setting.
There are three basic designs for pave settings. The first is a simple, thin band with a single row of diamonds. The width of the band is matched to the width of the diamonds, making the entire band appear to be made from diamonds alone. A center stone is then mounted on the band.
The second design is a three-dimensional, wider band. In addition to a single row of stones supporting a larger central diamond, other rows are set at an angle to the center row, creating a wider ring with a bow or curve adding additional texture. Without the center stone, this is a shimmering alternative for a men's engagement rings.
The third pave design is a simple band without a center stone. These rings have gained popularity as anniversary or eternity bands, but their glitter and glamor is perfect for elegant engagement rings as well. Whether or not a center stone is used, the band can be set in a curve or wave, creating an elegant and sophisticated ring.
